Two Steps Forward, One Step Back – Whitecaps 1-2 Miami FC
By: Lee | July 12th, 2009
Inconsistency seems to be the story once again for the Whitecaps.
Let’s give Miami full credit, they came out and played well early. They made effective runs and incisive passes while we just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights. Only until we were already down 2-0 did we start to win some 50-50 balls and create some chances.
At halftime, Haber and Gbeke were replaced by Lyall and youngster Dever Orgill. The inclusion of Orgill especially seemed to spark the Whitecaps, as they produced some great chances with the majority of possession in Miami territory. Burgess had a nice freekick attempt that sailed just over the bar. The young Jamainca scored a late goal to make it close, but it was too little too late.
The Whitecaps inconsistency can be certainly frustrating, but it is better than consistently losing (see Montreal Impact). This is also not a surprise coming from a young squad that is still finding itself and learning the ropes (like taking care of your body on the road).
