We’re unbeaten in three!

By: Lee | August 22nd, 2009

…Or winless in six. It all depends on how you look at things.

Either way the Whitecaps are in a tight battle for the playoffs, and after this string of draws things don’t look quite so good. Miami sit only three points behind us with two games in hand.

The first draw against the Railhawks is still hard to fathom. The game ended 0-0. The Whitecaps had a ridiculous number of great chances that you would almost think it would be harder not to score. Marlon James must have run over a black before the game because it seemed like he was cursed. He failed to score on several opportunities near the goal line including a little ping pong moment with the goalkeeper. This game reminded of the Rochester home game earlier this season, but at least we didn’t lose this one.

In the second draw, the Whitecaps got a taste of their own medicine, being the victims of a late goal against Carolina Rail Hawks. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, which in despite the late disappointment, fairly reflected the game’s balance of play. Props to Marcus Haber for his cool finish, after coming in for an injured Marlon James (did I mention he was cursed?). No props to Mason Trafford for getting burned so easily on the tying goal.

And finally the Whitecaps drew on the road against the Charleston Battery 1-1
. Hopefully this is the end of a bit of a dour stretch of play for the Caps. In spite of this, I would like to reiterate the title of the post’s optimistic attitude: every game I have seen this season, this team always plays to win and never gives up. This bodes well for the future

Other notes: Gbeke, Knight and Chin are playing well, Reda is awful, Hirano is getting burned more often, not impressed with Pejic, but he’s better than Reda and Khalfan is a decent addition.

Be Champions!
