Wes Charles Released
By: Lee | July 23rd, 2009
Just when you thought that the Whitecaps season was already weird it gets weirder. Wesley Charles was released yesterday after getting in ANOTHER brawl, this time with defender Jeff Parke in practice. The Whitecaps FO are doing the absolute right thing, this behavior is absolutely unacceptable and hurts our team. For Charles, I hope that he gets his life sorted out as this sort of behavior seems out-of-character for him.
With that said, its sad to see Wesley Charles leave, even though he must. He was a rock for our defense. It also means I won’t really have an opportunity to bring up any Kllingon jokes (which I have been DYING to use: He so does look like a Klingon). Maybe I’ll just have to resort to calling Marcus Haber K-FED (but that’s a bit low even for my taste).
Funny thing about all this is that even with our f***ed up season, we can’t even boast being the Canadian team with the most f***ed up season. That goes to Montreal, who have in less than one year: made it the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals, beat a Mexican Team in front of 55000 fans, collapsed after having a four-goal lead against said Mexican team, humiliated at home against TFC and just playing awful this season.
And this:

Why can’t Canadian teams just follow our national stereotype and be civil? I guess TFC has, but well they’re having their best season and they’re still not doing that well.
That’s all for now

I always loved Worf.
That is all.
Actually, no, that’s not all. Any idea what the brawl was about? Parke still kind of technically belongs to Seattle. Or at least his MLS rights do. So this is kind of interesting to us.

Laurie: The Province has a good writeup about it. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/soccer/Whitecaps+Charles+loose/1815700/story.html Apparently Charles was took exception to a tackle made by Parke during a possession drill. It seems like there are some personal issues that are troubling him as before this season he was seen as a role model.
